Theory test

A valid loss declaration certificate issued by the police will be accepted instead of an identity card. However, your pass certificate (for both the theory and practical test) will be retained by the examination centre and will only be issued on presentation of your official new identity card.

It is possible to obtain a new pass certificate for the theory or practical test via the examination centre. This document costs 7.50 €.

There is no charge for duplicates of pass certificates for all CAP C or D tests.

Candidates who passed their theory test after 30/06/2018 and who wish to continue learning to drive privately, must attend a learning session beforehand, along with their private instructor(s).

This learning session is aimed at the candidate and private instructor(s). The session must be attended by the candidate and the private instructor(s) before beginning to learn to drive on public roads.

Duration: 3 hours of lessons provided by an accredited driving school or attended by e-learning on the AWSR  or BTI Belgium website, Conduct-Belgium and GOFORDRIVE..

Validity: at the end of this session, the candidate and private instructor will each receive a certificate valid for 5 years. These certificates must be valid and presented (both for the candidate AND the private instructor) on the day of the practical test. The certificate awarded to the private instructor can be used for multiple candidates.

Period before taking the practical test: 3 months minimum from the date the certificate for attending the learning session is issued and from the date on which the provisional driving licence is issued.

Candidates who do not speak French or German may take the theory test in Dutch or English with a sworn interpreter at certain examination centres in Wallonia (Wandre and Couillet). These sessions are held by appointment only. There will be a surcharge of 50 € for the interpreter.

In our company, only the examination centre in Wandre holds this type of session. In order to register, we invite you to go to the centre with your original and valid identity card and an amount of 65 € (15 € for the session and 50 € for the interpreter), payable in advance.

This means that tests can only be organised in the 3 national languages, plus English. Your understanding is appreciated.

A theory test passed in another country is not valid in Belgium.

The theory test for licence categories AM and A includes specific questions about driving these types of vehicle. This means that the theory test for category B is not valid for obtaining a provisional driving licence for categories AM and A.

There is no limit to the number of times you can attempt the theory test. Having said that, each time you fail the theory test twice for category B, you will be required to attend a minimum of 12 hours of theory lessons via an accredited driving school. When you come to the centre, you will need to bring a course certificate proving that you have attended these hours of lessons.

You cannot attempt to pass the theory test again on the same day that you fail.

When you take your theory test, bring your valid Belgian identity card with you.
