Summons/single reminder
To enable this information to be recorded at all levels, i.e. by the DIV, the Federal Public Service Mobility and Transport and by all technical inspection organisations, there are two possibilities:
- Either you go and register another vehicle: this is only possible for European format registration numbers beginning with “1” to “9” (for example 1-ABC-003). If it is an old registration number, it will have to be cancelled.
- Or the registration number will be cancelled from the registration directory. For that to happen, you can:
- Either take your official number plate, without wrapping, to a bpost office (not a post point),
- Or deposit your number plate, without wrapping, in one of the boxes provided for this purpose at the office counters and sub-offices of the DIV. The DIV stopped cancelling number plates at its office counters on 1/11/2013. These boxes can only be accessed during opening hours. The number plates are then taken to the Cancellation department.
You will then receive an attest for cancellation via bpost, which you need to send to your insurer. Make sure that this attest for cancellation is safely received to be certain that the number plate has reached the Cancellation department. This notice is the proof that your number plate really has been cancelled. Afterwards, if you do not receive this notice within a month, contact the DIV to obtain a duplicate of the attest for cancellation. We can confirm that there are no other steps to take if you have received an attest for cancellation and you will no longer receive an inspection notice for this registration number.
Depending on the local regulations, it is probably possible to undergo a technical inspection in another country, although this inspection will only be valid for that country and on condition that your insurance company accepts it.
The vehicle must be presented at a Belgian inspection centre when it returns to Belgium. We should point out that if the vehicle is late for inspection and depending on the regulations in effect, the price of the inspection will be increased and you will lose your right to claim any bonus on the validity of the certificate.
The database, which we use to send out our inspection notices, comes to us each month from the Federal Public Service Mobility and Transport, under which the DIV operates. This means that as long as the vehicle remains registered with the DIV, an inspection notice will be sent out to you.
You then have two options:
- Either you wish to retain the registration of your vehicle: in which case the vehicle in question will have to be presented to an inspection centre as soon as it is put back on the road. There will be no further inspection notice.
We would draw your attention to the fact that if you drive on the public roads without being covered by a valid inspection certificate, or if you have an accident, your insurance company may take action against you and exercise its right of recourse, pursuant to article 25 of standard contract 109.
We should also point out that if the expiry date has passed, the price of inspection will be increased by an additional fee for non-compliance with the expiry date. This additional fee will be at the rate in effect at the time. This amount varies depending on how late the inspection is. For more information, see the sliding scale of fees. You will also lose your right to claim any bonus on the validity of the certificate.
- Or, if you no longer wish to put the vehicle on the road, it must be deregistered.
- If you are going to register another vehicle: this is only possible for European format registration numbers beginning with “1” to “9” (for example 1-ABC-003). If it is an old registration number, it will have to be cancelled.

Details of the vehicles to be summoned each month are sent to us by the DIV, which operates under the Federal Public Service Mobility and Transport. Each file is processed internally and then sent for printing approximately two months before the date by which the vehicle must be inspected.
If your vehicle has already been inspected, then the information must have crossed in the post.
We confirm that if you have a valid inspection certificate, then you can disregard the inspection notice you receive.

Given that the change is made automatically by computer via the DIV within 3 months following the cancellation date. The information must have crossed in the post.
We can confirm that there are no other steps to take if you have received an attest for cancellation and you will no longer receive an inspection notice for this registration number.
The expiry date may be changed, but only by shortening the inspection cycle. For example, you can request the inspection period for your car and your caravan to be synchronised by opting to shorten one of the periods of validity. Then all you have to do is present the 2 together by the first of the two expiry dates.
The regulations in effect do not allow us to extend the validity date for any reason whatsoever.
If the expiry date has passed, the price of the inspection will be increased by an additional fee for not respecting the expiry date, depending on the rate in effect at the time. This amount various according to how late you are. For more information, see the sliding scale of fees. You will also lose your right to claim any bonus on the validity of the certificate.Price
We would remind you that you can present your vehicle up to two months before the expiry date for vehicles with an inspection interval of one year and up to one month before the expiry date for vehicles with an inspection interval of six months, without losing the remaining period of validity. For example, a car with an expiry date of 1st March can be presented from 1st January. The new inspection certificate will be valid until 1st March of the following year.
Your vehicle may also be presented by a person other than you.
You are not obliged to present your vehicle at either of the two inspections stations stated in your inspection notice. You can go to any inspection centre in Belgium.
However, if you need to a re-inspection, you are required to present your vehicle at the station where the full inspection was carried out.
For a change of address, go to the local council offices with the registration certificate to make the change.
For your inspection notice, the change of address will be made automatically by computer via the DIV.
If the modification has already been made on the registration certificate by the local council, you should contact the DIV directly.
