The current regulations do not allow us to extend the validity date for any reason whatsoever (illness, hospitalisation, vehicle in an accident, waiting for a new vehicle, etc.)

If your vehicle does not have a valid inspection certificate, you may be subject:
Additional fee
The Royal Decree setting the fees made for vehicle inspections states that an additional fee must be levied for any vehicle that is presented late. This amount varies depending on how late the inspection is (see Fees).
Police check
If during a police check, the vehicle is found not to have a valid inspection certificate, you may receive a fine.
Right of recourse by the insurance company
If you drive on public roads without being covered by a valid inspection certificate, your insurance company may take action against you and exercise its right of recourse, except:
if you are on the normal route to go for a technical inspection.
if you are on the normal route between the inspection centre and your home and/or a repair workshop, after an inspection certificate has been issued stating ‘not allowed on the road’.
if you are on the normal route to present the vehicle at the inspection centre after a repair.
This means that the condition of one or more items, or failures to comply with the technical regulations are such that the vehicle is no longer allowed on public roads. Such a vehicle is only allowed to drive on public roads if it is empty and for the purpose of taking the most direct route from the inspection centre to the driver’s home or a repair workshop, or vice versa.
Privately owned cars may benefit from the bonus if all of the conditions listed below are complied with at the time of the full periodic technical inspection (i.e. not at the time of a re-inspection):
- Your vehicle is less than 8 years old on the day of the inspection.
- Your vehicle is not being presented beyond the expiry date.
- The mileage is less than 110,000 km.
- Your inspection certificate does not state codes 1, 2 or 3 (no limited validity).
- Your vehicle does not claim use as a ‘tractor of a trailer with a Maximum Authorised Mass greater than 750 kg’.
In the case of an inspection for a used vehicle, the bonus system does not apply.
