Invalid certificate

If your vehicle does not have a valid inspection certificate, you may be subject:

Additional fee

The Royal Decree setting the fees made for vehicle inspections states that an additional fee must be levied for any vehicle that is presented late. This amount varies depending on how late the inspection is (see Fees).

Police check

If during a police check, the vehicle is found not to have a valid inspection certificate, you may receive a fine.

Right of recourse by the insurance company

If you drive on public roads without being covered by a valid inspection certificate, your insurance company may take action against you and exercise its right of recourse, except:

if you are on the normal route to go for a technical inspection.

if you are on the normal route between the inspection centre and your home and/or a repair workshop, after an inspection certificate has been issued stating ‘not allowed on the road’.

if you are on the normal route to present the vehicle at the inspection centre after a repair.
